The Kingdom of Denmark is the southernmost of the Scandinavian states, bordering only Germany by land. The population of the country, 86% of which are ethnic Danes, is 5,833,000 people. Greenland and the Faroe Islands are part of the commonwealth of the United Kingdom nominally, since they are granted autonomy. If we describe the national character of a Dane, such qualities as diligence, punctuality, calmness, and discipline come to the fore. Some of the traditions of the Kingdom are briefly described below.
