Israel is a young Middle Eastern state on the Asian coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The modern parliamentary republic will celebrate 75 years of its formation only next year, although the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah have existed on its territory since the 10th century BC. e. Briefly describing all the traditions and customs of Israel is difficult for several reasons. Of the country’s population of over 9 million, more than a fifth are Arabs. Therefore, Arabic became the second (after Hebrew) official language of Israel. Jewish society is heterogeneous. Representatives of the first, second, third waves of repatriation retain their customs. The laws of the Torah, which are the basis of traditions, are carried out to the smallest detail only by Orthodox Jews, who make up 20% of the population of Israel.
